Welcome

Hello — I'm glad you're here.

However you arrived at this page — a hard season, a memory that won't settle, or simply a quiet feeling that something needs to change — I want you to know this is a good place to start.

I'm Y. Mimi Sneed, a licensed clinical social worker who has spent the last twelve years helping people move through trauma and rebuild a lasting sense of safety, at whatever pace works for them. My practice is entirely virtual, so this work can happen from the privacy and comfort of wherever you feel most like yourself.

— Welcome to Lighthouse Center for Therapy & Play

About

Meet Y. Mimi Sneed, LCSW-C

Founder, Lighthouse Center for Therapy & Play

For the past twelve years, I've worked alongside people carrying the weight of trauma — helping them process what happened, quiet a nervous system stuck on high alert, and reconnect with the people and goals that matter most to them. I founded Lighthouse Center for Therapy & Play so that this kind of care could be reached from anywhere, on your own terms.

I earned my Master of Social Work from Howard University School of Social Work, where my clinical training centered on trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.

Before turning to clinical work, I spent years in business, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Memphis and an MBA from Christian Brothers University. That background still shapes how this practice runs today: with the same reliability and clear communication I'd want from any business I depended on, and no unnecessary red tape between you and the support you're looking for.

Come as you are

You don’t have to have it all figured out.

Whatever you’re carrying and however you arrive — tired, unsure, guarded, or hopeful — you’re welcome here exactly as you are.

No need to explain it all

You decide what to share and when. We start wherever feels manageable.

Your pace, your terms

Healing isn’t a race. We move at the speed that feels safe to you.

From wherever you feel safe

Sessions are entirely virtual, so you can join from the place that feels most like yourself.

My Approach

Two frameworks, matched to what you need in this season

Trauma rarely responds well to a one-size-fits-all method. I draw on two complementary, evidence-based approaches, and we'll shift the balance between them as your needs change.

Structure & Skills

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Sessions often include skills you can practice between our time together, so that progress isn't limited to the forty-five to sixty minutes we spend together.

Warmth & Pacing

Client-Centered Therapy

Not a fixed framework — especially important when trust and safety take time to rebuild.

Areas of Focus

What we can work on together

Trauma & PTSD

Single-incident and complex/developmental trauma, including its effects on the body, relationships, and sense of self.

Anxiety

Persistent worry, panic, and the hypervigilance that often develops alongside a trauma history.

Depression

Low mood, numbness, and loss of motivation, addressed with both practical tools and steady support.

Life Transitions

Career changes, relationship shifts, loss, and other major life altering events that interrupt your sense of stability.

Relationship & Attachment Patterns

Understanding recurring dynamics in relationships and building healthier, more secure ways of connecting.

Burnout & Chronic Stress

Depletion that has built up over time, especially for those used to holding everything together for others.

A Virtual Practice, Built for Real Life

Licensed across five states, so distance is never the barrier

Good Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is trauma-focused therapy?

It's an approach that recognizes how difficult or overwhelming life experiences are and how they can continue to affect the mind and body long after the experience has ended. Rather than just discussing symptoms, we work together to process what happened at a pace that feels safe and helps to rebuild your sense of control.

What's the difference between CBT and client-centered therapy?

CBT is more structured, focusing on specific thought patterns and practical tools. Client-centered therapy is more open-ended, prioritizing warmth, acceptance, and your own pace. Most clients benefit from a blend of both, and we'll adjust that balance together as we go.

Do you accept insurance?

[Confirm current policy here — e.g., private pay with a superbill provided for out-of-network reimbursement, or specific in-network plans.] I'm happy to walk through the details during a free consultation.

What states can you see clients in?

I'm licensed in Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. By law, I can only work with clients who are physically located in one of these states at the time of our session.

How do virtual sessions work?

We meet over Zoom, using a secure, HIPAA-compliant connection — all you need is a private space and a stable internet connection. Many clients find that being in their own environment actually makes it easier to open up.

How do I get started?
